Happy New Year, from all of us here at FIY Wedding! Okay, it’s still just me here really.

Anyway, since 2023 is now upon us, I thought it’d be a great time to look at the year ahead and what trends we can expect to see in the wedding industry this year.

Here’s what’s going to be hot in 2023, so you can know what to expect from your friends’ weddings—and maybe even incorporate them into your own!

Mini wedding cakes

To most people, mini wedding cakes look like a novelty. They’re cute, and they can be fun to serve at a wedding reception, but they don’t seem like anything more than a passing fad that will soon be forgotten.

But mini wedding cakes are here to stay for good reason: they’re cheaper and easier to make than full-sized cakes, so you’ll get more bang for your buck when it comes time to your wedding dessert table. Plus, mini cakes are easier to serve (and eat) because there’s less cake per person.

Cupcakes are easier to move around, too. You probably won’t have considered this yet, but unless you’re getting your wedding cake delivered directly to your venue on the day, moving around big layered cakes can quickly become a logistical nightmare! You can’t exactly just pop it in the boot and drive it there…

As well as this, it’s much more practical to make wedding cupcakes yourself or have a friend take care of them. Finally, there’s less wastage, as it’s easier to predict as exactly how much you’ll need (we recommend 1.5 cupcakes per person!). With a bigger cake cut into slices, it’s much harder to predict the right amount and ensure you don’t end up with a tonne leftover.

Portrait wedding videos

Many people now consume most video content in portrait orientation, thanks to the likes of TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts.

So why are nearly all wedding videos still made in landscape? We reckon 2023 is going to be the year of portrait wedding videos, which is exactly what we offer with our Social Sharer package. All of our packages include the vertical orientation social videos, perfect for sharing on… you guessed it, social media.

Elaborate chair décor

If you’ve ever been to a wedding, you know that the chairs are often decorated with bows and flowers. This is a trend that has been growing in popularity for several years now, but it seems as though 2023 will be a big year for this look.

To get this look for your own wedding, we recommend using fabric glue or hot glue (depending on how much time you have) to attach ribbon or tulle onto your chair backs. You could also try using twine or even lace! Whatever material you choose will depend on what kind of feel you want to create in your space. It’s best if the end result is very detailed since elaborate chair décor is all about attention to detail—just like any other trend worth its salt!

Magical forests and enchanted woodland themes

The enchanted woodland theme is a popular choice for those who want to incorporate the bride and groom’s love of the outdoors into their wedding. You could use this theme to show your appreciation for nature, or you could even use it as a way to represent the couple’s love of fairytales. If you’re having an outdoor setting, candles are a great way to add some magic to your forest-themed ceremony.

Having said that, a magical forest theme would work well in any venue, whether it’s indoors or out! A bride and groom who are passionate about nature might choose this option because they want their guests to get lost in the beauty of their surroundings while they celebrate with them on their special day—and what better way than by dressing up like characters from Lord Of The Rings? Anybody? No, just me…

Photo booths, but with a twist

Photo booths are a great way to capture memories from your wedding day, and photo booth companies are getting more creative and elaborate with what you can do in them. For example, some companies have started offering options that allow guests to write on their photos.

People love writing on things! It’s fun for them and it makes the photo even more special because it shows that someone took time out of their evening to add that extra personal touch. This can then effectively replace a guestbook.

The best part is that many of these photos also get shared on social media afterwards so everyone who wasn’t able to attend can still feel included in the celebration!

Burnt orange color palette

If you’re looking for a color palette that will add warmth to your wedding ceremony and reception, consider going with a burnt orange theme. This warm hue is perfect for autumn and winter weddings and can be paired with black, white or gray. It’s also an excellent choice if you want to plan a laid-back wedding in the country or at home because it isn’t too bright but still has enough brightness to make people feel festive.

Engraved bridal shoes or golden shoe clips

Bridal shoes are as much a part of the wedding as anything else. If you’re going to be wearing high heels, it wouldn’t hurt to get some golden shoe clips for your bridesmaids to wear, too! Another great idea is engraving the bride’s initials onto her bridal shoes. This adds an extra personal touch for those with a keen eye to appreciate.

Mismatched bridesmaid dresses

Another way to make your bridal party stand out, this trend allows you to have fun with all of the elements of your wedding while still keeping the overall look cohesive.

Mismatched bridesmaid dresses can feature different colors, styles, fabrics and even lengths. You can choose a color or design that matches one style of dress (e.g., all lace or only strapless) and then decide which other characteristics are important to you so that each woman wears something different. For example:

  • All black/neutral colored dresses in various styles (dressy or casual).
  • One dress per girl in one style but various colours (i.e., red, orange and yellow).
  • All short dresses except one long sleeved gown.

Wedding trends get more extravagant every year!

As with anything, wedding trends are subject to change. The same can be said for wedding fashion and traditions. In the years after 2023, we can expect to see more extravagant weddings than ever before! This can be attributed to many things: pop culture influences, other weddings people have attended in the past year, and social media trends that were well-received in their time.

We hope that this article has inspired you to take a look at wedding trends for the upcoming year, so that you can plan your big day accordingly. It’s important to keep in mind that some of these ideas are more dramatic than others—and we encourage you not to feel pressured by them if they don’t feel right for your own personal style. But there’s no denying that weddings have become increasingly lavish over time—and it seems like there are no limits when it comes to what people will do for their special day!
